Deputies Charge Former East Lincoln High School Student With Communicating Threats

LINCOLNTON, N.C. — Police say a former East Lincoln High School student has been charged with communicating threats after posting death threats to social media.

Former student Amon Stevens, 18, is charged with communicating threats and is being held under a $10,000 bond at the Harven A. Crouse Detention Center for his involvement in this case, according to a news release.

Lincoln County deputies say on May 13th they received calls from School Resource Officers at East Lincoln Middle School and East Lincoln High School, regarding rumors that an individual was posting threats on social media.

The individual threatened to kill people attending a memorial service at a Denver, N.C. church to honor an East Lincoln High School senior who died this past week, police say.

Hickory Police and Lincoln County Sheriff’s detectives say they were able to identify Stevens as the suspect and met up with him at a local restaurant to talk.

Police say Stevens admitted to making the social media posts depicting the death threats and was taken into custody immediately.

Stevens was additionally charged on May 14th with felony communicating a threat of mass violence at a place of religious worship, and his bond was increased to $20,000, according to a news release.
