CMPD: Two Suspects Charged With Murder In Fatal East Charlotte Shooting

The Latest (5/18/21):

Charlotte-Mecklenburg detectives have charged a second suspect with murder in connection to the fatal east Charlotte shooting that happened Saturday morning.

After a continued investigation, 24-year-old Jaquarius Bryant was identified as a second suspect in the homicide case of Ray Marese Garlins. Warrants were then issued for his arrest.

Bryant turned himself in to the custody of the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office on Monday.

Following an interview with Homicide Unit detectives, Bryant was charged with first-degree murder.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police have charged a 21-year-old man for the murder of Ray Garlins, 41, after he was fatally shot in east Charlotte on Saturday.

Detectives say Darius Platt, 21, is charged with first degree murder in this case, and he has been taken into custody of the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Charlotte-Mecklenburg detectives are investigating a fatal east Charlotte shooting after a gunshot victim died early Saturday morning.

Officers say they were patrolling around 12:30 a.m., when they heard gunshots and responded to a home on Finchley Drive in east Charlotte.

Officers say they found a victim with a gunshot wound, who had died, outside of the home when they arrived at the scene.

The investigation into this case remains active and ongoing.
