WCCB Charlotte sports anchor Kelli Bartik has the latest as Buzz City enters the offseason.
“Even though it’s painful in this moment, it’s disappointing, we’ve got to use this as fuel to get better. And this is the only way it happens,” James Borrego addressed the media one day after the Hornets season ended. “You’ve got to get hit sometimes in the mouth to take that next step forward.”
The Hornets definitely got hit in the mouth, and hit hard, in Tuesday night’s 114-117 loss to the Pacers. A postseason play-in game that many did not expect them to be in at the start of the NBA’s 2020-21 season.
While Charlotte lost its final six games of the season, the young team showed resiliency and made significant strides.
Borrego believes that the disappointing finish will motivate his players to take the next step next season, and that the future is bright for Buzz City.
The Hornets finished the season with a 33-and-39 record and will have a top 14 first round pick in this year’s NBA draft. The NBA draft lottery is set for June 22nd.
