One Arrested For Shootout Near Hookah Lounge In Uptown Charlotte, Police Searching For Additional Suspects | VIDEO

A 43-year-old man has been charged for the Babylon Hookah Lounge shooting that left one person hurt but the investigation continues as police request the public’s help identifying additional suspects in the case.

Police interviewed Cecil Oxner Wednesday by detectives about his involvement in this case and determined he was the driver of one of the vehicles involved in this shooting.Cecil Oxner Attempted First Degree Murder

Oxner has since been charged with attempted first degree murder and transferred to the custody of the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office, according to CMPD.

Central Division detectives are continuing their investigation to identify additional suspects and are asking anyone with information about this case to provide it by calling 911.

Original Story (5/18/21):

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department has released the surveillance video of an uptown Charlotte shooting where one person was hurt and over 50 rounds were fired early Monday.

Officers responded to Babylon Hookah Lounge around 2:20 a.m. after reports of the College Street shooting. Upon arrival, officers located a man with a life-threatening gunshot wound. MEDIC transported the victim to the hospital.

Officers determined the suspects had fled the scene in a vehicle. Units were on a search for a Nissan NV200. At the scene, officers located more than 55 rifle and pistol shell casings and discovered four vehicles and one structure had been struck by the gunfire.

 

During their investigation, officers located the suspect vehicle and attempted to stop the vehicle.  The driver refused to stop, and a vehicle pursuit ensued.  The pursuit ended near Pegram Street where all the people from inside the vehicle fled on foot.

Police said they were able to detain five people. A search of the Nissan NV200 resulted in the seizure of an AK-47 and a 9mm pistol with an extended magazine.

Damajae Williams, 18, and Mudullahi Mohamed, 19, were arrested for warrants unrelated to this incident. According to detectives, Williams had an outstanding arrest warrant for shooting into occupied property, and Mudullahi had an outstanding arrest warrant for possession of stolen property.

No one has been charged for the shooting at Babylon Hookah Lounge.

The investigation is ongoing.
