Iconic Rock Structure has Collapsed

Galapagos rock formation, Darwin's Arch has collapsed

Southeast of Darwin Island in the Galapagos (which is west of Ecuador in the Pacific Ocean) stood the iconic rock formation known as Darwin’s Arch – until now. The top of the rock fell into the ocean on Monday, only leaving two rock pillars. The famous rock formation collapsed due to natural erosion which was inevitable.

Darwin’s Arch was named after Charles Darwin who was a British naturalist, best known for his contributions to the science of evolution.

According to the Ministry of the Environment annewsd Water of Ecuador “The site is considered one of the best places on the planet to dive and observe schools of sharks and other species.”
