Heat, High Pressure Build
Rain chances remain few and far between into the workweek as highs approach record territory.
We’ve cranked up the heat as we head into the final week of May, and things are only getting hotter from here. In fact, the first 90º day of the year should come for our Sunday, as high pressure continues its stranglehold over the South. Expect mainly sunny skies and gentle breezes from the north over the next couple of days. A backdoor cold front from the northeast may bring a few clouds and isolated storm chances both Tuesday and Wednesday, but it likely won’t push far enough west to bring any real relief from the dry heat. The heat cranks up a step further for the back half of the week, approaching record highs Wednesday and Thursday before more substantial rain chances return by next weekend.
Meanwhile, out in the Atlantic, Subtropical Storm Ana has formed approximately 200 miles northeast of Bermuda. The 2021 season has now become the record-seventh-straight year with a named storm forming before the official start of the season on June 1. Ana is not a threat to the US and will trek northeast before dissipating within the next few days.
