CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Charlotte-Mecklenburg detectives arrested and charged Rico Spurlock, 45, on Sunday for his involvement in a fatal crash on April 22nd.
Spurlock is charged with Felony Death by Motor Vehicle, Assault with a Deadly Weapon, Felony Serious Injury, Reckless Driving, and Speeding, police say.
Officers say they responded to the wreck on Thursday, April 22nd around 8:30 p.m. on Rozzelles Ferry Road to find a white 2018 Chevrolet Impala and a grey 2000 Nissan Frontier in the roadway.
Police say the driver of the Chevrolet, Spurlock, and the driver of the Nissan, 59-year-old Mark Brown, were both taken to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries.
Brown died at Atrium Health Center Main on May 17th due to injuries sustained in the crash, according to authorities.
Police say their investigation revealed Spurlock was heading west on Rozzelles Ferry Road when he crossed the double yellow line and struck the Nissan head-on.
Both cars rotated off of each other and came to a final resting position in the roadway.
Detectives say Spurlock was impaired, driving in a careless and reckless manner, and speeding when the crash happened.
The investigation into this case remains active and ongoing.
