Record Heat Possible
After our first 90º of the year, heat index values could approach triple digits this week.
Charlotte just notched its first 90º day of the year Sunday afternoon, and Mother Nature could crank the heat up even higher for the final week of May. Expect plentiful sunshine and limited rain chances over the next five days as high pressure continues its stranglehold over the South. Highs should approach 80º in the High Country while the Piedmont soars into the mid-90s for much of the week ahead. We’ll need to keep a close eye on a backdoor cold front arriving from the northeast Tuesday and Wednesday, but it likely won’t get close enough to bring substantial rain nor a much-needed cooldown. Our best shot for rain and cooler temperatures comes next weekend.
