Much Needed Rain to Start the Month

AM Headlines:
  • More clouds than sun today
  • Temps get back into the 80s
  • Wet pattern sets up late week
Discussion:
Starting off the day with partly cloudy skies and temps in the 40s and 50s across the region. Highs will inch closer to normal today, even with partly to mostly cloudy skies in the forecast. A blocking high will set up near Bermuda slowing down a cold front that will move into the Carolinas late Wednesday. This will allow for some much-needed rain across the region. Scattered showers will be possible late Wednesday, but expecting a more active day with widespread rain and storms Thursday and Friday.
We were down more than 1.5″ of rainfall for the month of May, and nearly 3.5″ of rain since March. This has put us in a deficit for the year, putting us almost an inch below average after a very wet start to 2021.
Rain is much needed across the area. Expect 1-2″ of rainfall with locally higher amounts through the next 5 days. Temps will remain near normal during this soggy pattern with highs in the low to mid-80s and overnight lows in the low to mid-60s. Expecting the weekend to bring more scattered showers and storms as this boundary moves off the coast, setting up the heaviest rain for our beach communities in the eastern Carolinas.
