CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A 34-year-old man has been arrested and charged after firing several shots at officers in southwest Charlotte Wednesday afternoon, sparking a SWAT situation, according to CMPD.
Officers responded to Little Abbey Lane, off of South Tryon Road, around 1:45 p.m. after receiving a domestic disturbance call for service.
As officers knocked on the door and announced themselves, a suspect inside the residence shot several rounds at them. Officers then moved to safety and began to evacuate surrounding apartments. The suspect continued to shot several additional rounds as officers worked to ensure the safety of those in the immediate area, according to a news release.
When the suspect refused to exit the residence, the SWAT Team was requested to assist with the apprehension. The suspect peacefully surrendered to SWAT around 4 p.m. after speaking with negotiators.
The suspect, identified as Antoine Debold, was transported to the hospital after the incident and then among release was interviewed by police. According to a news release, through an investigation, it was discovered that Debold was out on Parole for criminal possession of a firearm in New York.
Police said after the interview Debold was transported to the custody of the Mecklenburg County’s Sheriff’s Office and charged with three counts of attempted murder, three counts of assault on a law enforcement officer with a firearm, assault on a female and possession of firearm by felon.
No CMPD officers were injured or discharged their service weapons during this incident.
