Police Looking For Driver Who Struck, Killed Pedestrian In York County

YORK COUNTY, S.C. — Police are asking for the public’s help locating a driver who fatally struck a man in York County, South Carolina early Wednesday morning.

York Police responded to Railroad Avenue, nearby Settelmeyer Street, around 2:15 a.m. after receiving a call about a man lying in the roadway. Upon arrival, officers determined the man, who appeared to be in his mid-twenties, had been struck by a vehicle.

The victim was transported to the local hospital where he later died due to his injuries.

Authorities identified the victim on Friday as 24-year-old Nicholas Dunnavant of York.

Police are asking for the public’s assistance to locate the driver of a silver sedan, possibly a Toyota, that struck Dunnavant who was already lying in the roadway. The driver has been described as a white man with black spiked hair and a beard.

The driver of the sedan left the scene prior to law enforcement arrival.

The York Police Department and the York County Coroner’s Office are actively investigating the fatal hit and run.
