Heat Cranks Up, Elsa Approaches US

Tropical Storm Elsa is roughly 24 hours away from landfall in Cuba, after which the storm will take aim at the US coastline.

Happy 4th of July! The beautiful weather continues through the holiday, but humidity and rain chances aren’t far behind, thanks in no small part to Tropical Storm Elsa. Expect sunny skies to last through Tuesday, as temperatures climb back into the 90s to start out the workweek. As Elsa trudges northward through the Caribbean and into the eastern Gulf of Mexico, more clouds should start to move into the WCCB Charlotte viewing area by Wednesday.

Rain chances will begin to pick up as soon as Wednesday night. While overall impacts and risk remain low, a messy commute on both sides of our Thursday may be in store for us. The heaviest rain and highest risk of severe weather should mainly stay to our east. Expect a blanketing 1-2″ south of I-40 in the 36-hour period between Wednesday night and Thursday morning. Rain chances may linger into next weekend as a frontal system sweeps Elsa back out to sea.
