New Data Shows Positive COVID Trends in Mecklenburg County

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – New data shows positive trends when it comes to COVID deaths in Mecklenburg County.

The Health Department did not report any new COVID-related deaths during the last week of June.

The number, updated weekly, remains at 981 in the reporting ending June 30th.

While the numbers remain sobering, the trends are improving.

The county is now seeing an average of 44 new cases per day. Six months ago that number was 762 a day.

3.1 percent of people tested are now coming back positive, compared to 15.6 percent at the end of December.

Experts continue to warn about the fast-spreading Delta variant, especially coming after 4th of July holiday gatherings.

Doctors emphasize the importance of the vaccine in combating the Delta variant.
