Beware Of False Surfside GoFundMe Sites
SURFSIDE, FLA. — As the search continues for victims in the debris of the South Florida condo collapse, officials are sending out a warning about scammers setting up false charity sites in hopes of profiting off of this tragedy.
To avoid scams the Federal Trade Commission says to block unwanted calls and text messages along with never giving out personal or financial information in response to a request you didn’t expect.
Also resist the pressure to act immediately – note that legitimate businesses give you time to make a decision before you give.
Lastly, talk to someone you trust. This could help you realize whether you’re dealing with a scam.
