CHESTERFIELD CO., S.C. — Troopers are investigating a two-vehicle fatal collision that occurred Saturday afternoon in Chesterfield County.
Troopers say around 3:20 p.m. they responded to the collision between a 2000 Sterling dump truck and a 2005 Dodge station wagon on Airport Road at Smith Lane.
The dump truck driver, 47-year-old Daniel McIntyre, was traveling south on Airport Road, when the Dodge driver disregarded a stop sign while turning onto Airport Road from Smith Lane and was struck by the dump truck, according to a news release.
Troopers say McIntyre was pushed off the road to the side where he struck a mailbox with his dump truck before coming to a complete stop.
The Dodge driver, identity yet to be released, died at the scene and McIntyre was taken to a local hospital with injuries following the crash, according to a news release.
Troopers say the Dodge driver was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the collision.
