President Biden: Facebook is “Killing People” With Vaccine Misinformation

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Facebook is blaming President Joe Biden for using the social media platform as a scapegoat for the administration not reaching its vaccine goals. It’s in response to Biden’s accusation that Facebook is killing people by allowing vaccine misinformation to spread.

So far, the United States is just shy of having half the population vaccinated against COVID. The President and his administration have blamed misinformation online about vaccine safety for hindering vaccination efforts and prolonging the pandemic.

A reporter asked Biden, “On COVID misinformation. What’s your message to platforms like Facebook?” President Biden replied, “They’re killing people. I mean they’re really…look, the only pandemic we have is among the unvaccinated.”

U.S. Surgeon General Dr. Vivek Murthy also says, “I believe that they (Facebook) have an obligation to inform users about what is true and what is clearly false.”

Facebook responded in a statement Friday night, saying in part: “The fact is that more than 2 billion people have viewed authoritative information about COVID-19 and vaccines on Facebook…more than 3.3 million Americans have also used our vaccine finder tool to find out where and how to get a vaccine. The facts show that Facebook is helping save lives. Period.”

Our question of the night: is Facebook doing enough to stop the spread of vaccine misinformation?
