ALBEMARLE, N.C. — The Albemarle Fire Department had to reach out for help with additional staffing this week after ten firefighters tested positive for COVID-19.
Officials say currently nine firefighters are out with COVID, and one firefighter has returned to work after being medically cleared.
The City of Albemarle Fire Department and OSFM (Office of State Fire Marshal) are using the statewide mutual aid network to help provide sufficient staffing in the city until Monday, July 26th.
Officials say during this time, Albemarle Fire personnel will be off and allowed to re-energize.
Fire officials say all staff are being screened by way of daily temperature checks, masks and gloves are being worn on medical calls where patients are involved, and the Fire Department has implemented daily sanitizing efforts.
As of Friday, July 16th no new cases have been reported, according to a news release.
