Air Quality Alert Continues Locally from Smoke from West Coast Wildfires
AIR QUALITY ALERT in effect through Friday across much of North Carolina.
AIR QUALITY ALERT in effect through Friday across Western North Carolina.
Smoke from wildfires out west is starting to clear for the Eastern Carolinas, but air quality remains at unhealthy levels for areas west of I-77 Friday.
Moderate levels of smoke will keep the hazy skies in the forecast for the start of the weekend. Closer to surface fine particles from the west coast wildfires will lower air quality for the Western Carolinas. Code orange is in effect until 12:15 AM Saturday.
Air Quality Concerns – For the sensitive groups – those with heart and lung disease, older adults, and children should limit time outdoors, especially during peak daytime heating when the air quality index will be at its highest. Keeping the windows and doors closed will limit exposure to smoke. Make sure to check your air filters and change them regularly.
The Charlotte area will likely hold onto the haze through the weekend, but Air Quality does look to improve each day.
