Deputies: Retired Police Officer Killed In Rock Hill

ROCK HILL, S.C. — Police have charged one man for murder after finding a retired Rock Hill Police Lieutenant dead inside an apartment Friday afternoon.

Deputies were called to the Anderson Apartments on Main Street in Rock Hill around 3:15 p.m. after Lieutenant Larry Vaughan was found dead.

The Rock Hill Police Department requested the York County Sheriff’s Office conduct an investigation due to Vaughn having ties to their agency.

In less than 24 hours, detectives arrested Evan Hawthorne, 27, in connection to this case. Hawthorne was taken to the York County Detention Center and served with a warrant for murder.

“Our hearts break for our friends and colleagues at the Rock Hill Police Department and our entire law enforcement community,” said Sheriff Kevin Tolson. “I’m thankful for the diligent and the expedient work of our Detectives during such a difficult case regarding an individual they know personally.”

This case remains under investigation.
