Strong storms Monday afternoon and evening led to isolated flash flooding as some locations picked up over 4 inches of rain in just 3 hours. (The rainfall totals seen below are valid from 8 am – 8 pm Monday)
A slow-moving storm around Lake Wylie managed to dump nearly 5” of rain in a short period of time Monday afternoon – early evening. To put that into perspective, in July, Charlotte’s average monthly rainfall total is roughly 4.5 inches. There were also some neighborhoods that picked up no measurable rain – it was another feast or famine summertime event!
Along with the torrential rain, lightning was a concern across the WCCB area on Monday. Charlotte Douglas International Airport had multiple Airport Weather Warnings with lightning surrounding the airport.
Scattered showers are expected again on Tuesday, therefore, with already saturated grounds across the Carolinas some could see isolated flash flooding. While we cannot rule out an isolated strong storm Tuesday, the severe weather threat is much lower than Monday with just general thunderstorms expected.
