Torrid Temperatures Take Off

Heat index values may soar above 105° at times around the Metro and southward.

We’re over the hump for the week, but temperatures are just getting started on their climb to the peak. A very strong area of high pressure has built in over the south-central United States, setting us up for a blast from Mother Nature’s blowtorch to close out July. While rain chances take a tumble, temperatures will take off into the mid-to-upper 90s in the Piedmont and Foothills while the High Country bakes in the 80s. When humidity is factored in, it could feel like 105° or hotter in the Metro and southward.

The blistering pattern should last through the workweek before cooler air arrives for the weekend. Rain chances return to isolated values Saturday, increasing to more scattered/widespread on Sunday. Next week looks wetter with below-average temperatures.
