CMPD: Juvenile Charged For Fatal South Charlotte Crash Involving Motorcycle

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A juvenile has been charged after a south Charlotte crash involving a motorcycle Thursday night left a 22-year-old dead, according to police.

Officers responded to reports of a motor vehicle crash at the intersection of Providence Road and Raintree Lane around 7 p.m. Upon arrival, officers located a Harley Davidson motorcycle and a Mazda 3 Touring which had been involved in the collision. The operator of the motorcycle, identified as 22-year-old Anthony Toineeta, was pronounced dead at the scene by MEDIC.

Police said the initial investigation indicates that the driver of the Mazda was making a left turn from Raintree Lane onto Providence Road and pulled into the path of the motorcyclist traveling southbound on Providence Road, causing the collision. The driver of the Mazda’s failure to yield the right of way was found to be a contributing factor to this crash, according to detectives.

The juvenile driver was charged for misdemeanor death by motor vehicle and cited for failure to yield the right of way, police said. Due to his age, the juvenile’s identity will not be released.

The investigation into this collision is active and ongoing.
