Town Of Boone Declares State Of Emergency, Masks Required Indoors

BOONE, N.C. — The Town of Boone announced a State of Emergency on Friday, that includes an indoor mask mandate, as cases of the Delta variant of COVID-19 are on the rise.

Boone Mayor Rennie Brantz says this State Of Emergency extends to the town limits, which includes Appalachian State University.

In a release issued on August 6th, Brantz indicates many people are asymptomatic and are able to spread the virus without knowing it, and this is extremely dangerous as cases are rapidly multiplying.

Beginning Tuesday, August 10th at 5 p.m., this State of Emergency will go into effect and all residents over the age of 2-years-old will be required to wear a mask indoors regardless of vaccination status.
