The Gastonia Police Department announced Wednesday that no charges would be filed in a case involving a 2-year-old boy accidentally shooting and killing his father.
Through a police investigation, it was determined that a child in the home accidentally discharged a firearm which caused a bullet to strike Markovia Durham.
Investigators consulted with the Gaston County District Attorney’s Office and no charges will be filed in this case, officials said.

GASTONIA, N.C. — A 2-year-old boy accidentally shot and killed his father in Gastonia Sunday evening, according to the family.
Officers responded to West Fifth Avenue, in-between South Trenton Street and South Clay Street, around 8:45 p.m. after reports of a shooting. Upon arrival, officers located the victim, identified as 29-year-old Markovia Lashawn Durham, dead due to apparent gunshot wounds.
The family says the young boy accidentally shot his father after picking up the gun from the sofa.
The Gastonia Police Criminal Investigations Division is investigating the incident.
