Matthews Police Investigating Bomb Threat at Town Hall

MATTHEWS, N.C.– UPDATE: Police have cleared the scene after a bomb threat was called in to the Matthews Town Hall building. One suspicious item was found near the exterior of the building but was later identified as a geocache box. No explosive devices were discovered.  The Matthews Town Hall is back open to the public. Police are still working to identify who is responsible for making the threat.

Matthews Town Hall is currently closed while a bomb threat is being investigated by the Matthews Police Department. According to officers, the building is secure and has been safely evacuated.

Town officials are asking that people avoid the area near Matthews Station Street.
