A 28-year-old woman has been charged with murder in the the deadly west Charlotte shooting that happened Saturday evening, according to police.
Through an investigation, Shamika Rashawn Simmons was identified as a suspect in the homicide case of 54-year-old Matthew Simmons, the identified victim in the case, detectives said. Warrants were then issued for her arrest.
Simmons was located and arrested Monday without incident. She was then interviewed by Homicide Detectives leading to her being transported to the custody of the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office and charged with 1st-degree murder, according to Charlotte police.
The investigation into this case is active and ongoing.

CHARLOTTE – Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department’s Homicide Unit are conducting a homicide investigation in West Charlotte.
It happened around just after 11 p.m. Saturday. Officers responded to an assault with deadly weapon call for service in the 2000 block of Brooksvale Street, that’s off Wilkinson Blvd. When officers arrived, they found one person suffering from a gunshot wound. The victim was pronounced deceased on scene by medic.
So far, police have not released the name of the victim. No word yet about any suspects.
