CMPD: 5 CMS Students Arrested During The First Week Of School
CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department held a briefing on Friday to discuss several violent incidents that occurred at Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools during the first few days of the school year.Β Friday, CMPD detectives assisted in the investigation after a bomb threat at Hough High School in Cornelius.Β The school was evacuated and nothing was found.

On Thursday, August 26th at Mallard Creek High School, officers were alerted around 1:45 p.m. that a student had been robbed by another student.
Police say a CMS staff member located the student suspected in the robbery shortly after it, and as part of the continued investigation officers found a knife, stolen firearm, and marijuana in his immediate possession when they arrived on the scene.
The student in this case was charged with common law robbery, possession of a controlled substance, possession of a stolen firearm, possession of a concealed weapon, and two other felony charges, according to a news release.
At West Mecklenburg High School on that same Thursday, August 26th, police say a school resource officer received an anonymous tip about a student who had a firearm on his person.
After locating the suspected student, CMS staff searched his property to find a BB gun modeled as a Glock 9 in his immediate possession.
Police say the student was then charged with possession of a weapon at school.
On August 27th around 8:30 a.m., officers responded to an armed person call for service at West Charlotte High School.
When officers arrived at the school, they located accessories from a firearm in plain view inside a car parked in the student parking lot.
Officers went on to find three firearms located inside the vehicle and arrested the student who owned the car.
The student in this case was charged with possession of a weapon at school, possession of stolen goods, possession of a handgun by a minor, possession of drug paraphernalia, and possession of marijuana, according to a news release.
Police say there has also been a series of fights at Harding High School involving two groups of students, but no weapons or serious injuries have been involved.
Although police say two students have been charged as juveniles and several others have already been suspended from school.
CMS Police and Freedom Division officers say they are providing extra support to ensure the safety of all student and staff following these violent events.
CMPD also thanks the community for sending in tips that helped them seize the firearms in this case.
