STATESVILLE, N.C. — Superintendent Jeff James announced on Wednesday that East Iredell Middle will transition to virtual learning amid rising COVID-19 cases.
Since 59 percent of the student body is sick or quarantined and there are 15 active COVID cases at the school currently, officials say students will learn remotely beginning Thursday, September 2nd through Friday, September 10th.
School officials say teachers will be in touch regarding direct instructions for students over the coming days.
Faculty and staff are asked to still come in as normal and remain masked while inside the building.
Officials say when students finally return on September 13th, masks will be mandatory (unless the student has obtained a medical waiver that inhibits their ability to breathe in a mask).
