GASTONIA, N.C. — Detectives with the Gastonia Police Department are asking for the public’s help finding a missing 16-year-old girl.
Sherly Elizabeth Morales Caniz was recently reported as missing by her friends, after being last seen on August 8th.
Authorities say Caniz was last known to live on Gum Street and was in contact with her mother in Guatemala since going missing.
Investigators believe Caniz may be in the company of 21-year-old Ribaldo Lopez (who also may go by the name Lusvin Lopez Perez).
Detectives say they have reason to believe Caniz and Lopez may be in the Alexandria, Virginia area.
Authorities describe Caniz as 5 feet tall, 120 pounds, with brown eyes, and dark hair.
Anyone with information on the whereabouts of Caniz is asked to call detectives at 704-866-6939. Callers may remain anonymous.
