CMPD: Armed Suspect At Northeast Charlotte Apartment Complex Surrenders

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Officers with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department responded to a northeast Charlotte apartment complex after reports of an armed person late Thursday morning.

Police responded around 11:40 a.m. to Campus Edge Circle to find two women inside an apartment. Officers learned that before their arrival, one woman had possibly discharged a firearm into the air.

Officers evacuated the surrounding area and continued attempts to de-escalate the situation peacefully. When the suspect refused to exit the residence, officers requested the assistance of CMPD’s Special Weapons and Tactics Team for additional resources to de-escalate the situation.

CMPD’s negotiators established verbal communication with the suspect, who surrendered to officers around 1:30 p.m, police said in a news release. The suspect’s identity will be released once she has been formally charged.

Police said no one was injured during the incident and officers did not fire their weapons.
