Around 7 a.m., officers responded to the crash on Fairview Road to find a 2006 Hyundai Sonata with damage to the passenger side door and a 2017 Kawasaki EX 650 motorcycle lying in the roadway.

Police say the driver of the Sonata, 22-year-old Dante Ybarra, reported no injuries, but the motorcycle driver, 28-year-old Taylor Stutesman, was taken to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries.

At the hospital, detectives say Stutesman was pronounced dead as a result of injuries sustained in the crash.

Initial investigation reveals that Ybarra was heading east on Fairview Road, when he began to turn left onto Piedmont Row Drive South and turned into the motorcycle’s path.

Detectives say the motorcyclist was heading west on Fairview Road in the right lane of travel when Ybarra got in their way and the front of the motorcycle struck the passenger side of Ybarra’s car.

The collision caused Stutesman to be ejected from the motorcycle, according to a news release.

Police arrested Ybarra following the crash and charged him with Misdemeanor Death by Motor Vehicle and Unsafe Movement.
