CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Detectives are investigating after finding a 17-year-old boy shot in east Charlotte early Wednesday morning. Police say the boy has since died and one person has been arrested in this case.
Around 5 a.m. on November 3rd officers responded to McAlpine Glen Drive in reference to a Larceny from Motor Vehicle call for service.
Shortly after arriving at the scene, officers were alerted to a suspicious person’s call for service nearby.
When they responded to that location, officers say they found a victim with a gunshot wound and immediately took the victim to a local hospital.
Police say the victim, later identified as 17-year-old Moises Hernandez, died at the hospital a short time later.
Initial investigation revealed Dalton Neel, 26, as a person of interest in this case, detectives say.
Police say Neel was charged with Voluntary Manslaughter following an interview with detectives and taken into custody of the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office.
Hernandez’s family has started a GoFundMe here in honor of his memory and to help cover the unexpected funeral costs.
The investigation into this case is active and ongoing.
