Massive Fire Destroys Apartment Building In Pineville

PINEVILLE, N.C. — A massive fire at an apartment building in Pineville displaced several families early Monday morning.

The Pineville Fire Department responded to The Park at Caterina Apartment Homes, off of Plum Creek Lane, around midnight after reports of an apartment fire.

Upon arrival, firefighters found a two-story apartment involved in a ‘heavy’ fire.

Due to the heavy volume of fire and the unstable structure a “Defensive” Fire Operation was conducted. Multiple tower ladders were used to put thousands of gallons of water on the building.

“At one point the water pressure became so low, water supply became an urgent issue,” officials said.

Resident Lana Gibson tells WCCB that she’s thankful no one was seriously hurt. Gibson says, “It’s so sad, it’s so devastating to see. First of all, the fire burning like that and people just getting out in a robe and with slippers on and now they can’t take anything with them and who knows what condition their stuff is in right now. It’s just so sad.”

Firefighters say all residents are accounted for and no one was hurt.

The Red Cross is assisting victims.

The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Mecklenburg County Fire Marshal.
