BEECH MOUNTAIN, N.C. — Avery County EMS escorted two people at Beech Mountain Resort to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries after a hydrant broke Friday morning, resort officials confirm.
Resort management say the rupture happened when a guest, who remains uninjured, skied into the water and air hydrant during snowmaking operations.
After the pipe burst, management says several guests were soaked as the hydrant was directly under a loaded chair.

Resort management say their operations and safety team worked diligently to unload the lift and drain the system safely.
“We believe everyone is OK outside of the unfortunate situation and operations are on a regular schedule,” Beech Mountain resort management says.
