ROWAN COUNTY, N.C. — A juvenile could face charges after allegedly stabbing a 26-year-old man in Kannapolis Saturday evening, according to deputies.
The Rowan County Sheriff’s Office was dispatched to Freeze Road around 11:35 p.m. after receiving a report of a possible stabbing. Upon arrival deputies found the victim, identified as James “Nate” Garney, sitting on the steps of the front porch with a bloody towel pressed to his head.
Garney informed authorities that he had been stabbed several times. When he removed the towel from his head deputies saw a gash along the left side of his head, near the left ear. Garney also had a cut on the back of his neck and along the right side of his abdomen, according to a news release.
Rowan County EMS arrived and transported Garney to a local hospital for treatment. He has since been released.
Through a continued investigation, detectives determined that the stabbing was the result of a disagreement between Garney and a 16-year-old juvenile that lived close by in the area.
Detectives made contact with the Department of Juvenile Justice regarding charges, and requested a secure custody order to be issued for the juvenile, but their request was denied by DJJ.
The sheriff’s office is expected to meet with DJJ officials Wednesday to file a juvenile petition on the suspect juvenile.
