7 Charlotte Area Basketball Players Nominated As McDonald’s All Americans

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Seven players from Charlotte area high schools have been nominated for the 2022 McDonald’s All American Games in Chicago.

As one of the nation’s premier showcases for high school basketball talent, the McDonald’s All American Games will return to Chicago’s Wintrust Arena in March of 2022.

Officials say more than 760 girls and boys high school basketball players from across the country have been nominated for a chance to play in the 46th anniversary of the games, including seven Charlotte area players.

  • Saniya Wilson, Kings Mountain High School, Kings Mountain, N.C.
  • DJ Nix, Cannon School, Concord, N.C.
  • Jayden Epps, Combine Academy, Lincolnton, N.C.
  • Preston Murphy Jr., Combine Academy, Lincolnton, N.C.
  • AJ Smith, Combine Academy, Lincolnton, N.C.
  • Patrick Wessler, Combine Academy, Lincolnton, N.C.
  • Donovan Atwell, Providence Day School, Charlotte, N.C.

Officials say this new class of nominees is set to join a legendary group of athletes who, over four decades, have been nominated for a chance to play in the nation’s premiere showcase – including Michael Jordan, Candace Parker, LeBron James, Maya Moore, Trae Young, Breanna Stewart, and many more.

Officials say the top 24 girls and 24 boys selected to play in the games will be revealed on Tuesday, January 25th.
