Charlotte Man Charged After Firing Shots At Gastonia Home

GASTONIA, N.C. — A 23-year-old Charlotte man has been charged after firing shots at a Gastonia home and fleeing from officers in a vehicle Tuesday night, according to police.

Officers with the Gastonia Police Department responded to a Sharon Lane home around 9:15 p.m. after a report that a suspect had fired two shots at the home. Witnesses informed police that the suspect fired the shots and fled the area. Witnesses also provided officers with the description of the suspect’s vehicle.

A K-9 officer observed a vehicle matching the suspect’s vehicle description traveling on East Ozark Avenue toward I-85. Police attempted to conduct a traffic stop on the vehicle but the driver of the car refused to stop for police and eventually fled onto I-85 toward Mecklenburg County.

Additional law enforcement agencies responded to assist Gastonia police officers with attempting to stop the suspect’s car.

Around 9:50 p.m., the suspect was taken into custody by an assisting law enforcement agency after the suspect’s vehicle became disabled while trying to exit I-85 at Brookshire Boulevard in Mecklenburg County.

The suspect, identified as Colby Allen, was turned over to the custody of GPD and a stolen handgun was located inside his car during a search, according to police.

Allen was charged with assault with a deadly weapon, discharging a firearm in the city limits, stalking, possessing a stolen firearm, and multiple traffic-related offenses, according to the Gastonia Police Department. He is being held without bond.
