NC, SC DOT Crews Preparing For Wintry Weather This Weekend

CHARLOTTE — WCCB Charlotte Meteorologists say the Carolinas could see the possibility of snow, freezing rain, and ice this weekend.  Thursday morning after rush hour, Charlotte DOT crews will begin putting salt brine out on the roads as a pre-treatment to help keep any snow and ice from sticking to the roads.  They’ve got 36 trucks, spreaders and plows ready to go.

Crews with South Carolina DOT are prepared to work around the clock this weekend.  They have more than 500-thousand gallons of salt brine to treat the roads.  Transportation officials have an important message for drivers this weekend.

“If they can stay off the roads that just makes our job so much easier, keeps them safe and keeps our guys safe,” says Charles Jones with Charlotte DOT.

Charlotte DOT’s plan is to clear 90 percent of major and minor thoroughfares within 48 hours.  They also try and clear most residential streets within 48 hours.
