Man Shot, Injured In Lincoln County Sparking Investigation

LINCOLN COUNTY, N.C. — The Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a shooting that left a man injured Sunday afternoon.

Lincoln County and Charlie District deputies responded to a Denver Heights Circle residence, located in Denver, after receiving a report about the incident. Upon arrival at the scene, authorities found a victim lying in the hallway of the residence with a gunshot wound to the legs.

The victim’s girlfriend informed officers that her brother, 21-year-old Nathaniel Maguire, drove to the residence, kicked in the front door and shot 35-year-old Kevin Potter, in the legs, according to a news release. Maguire then fled the scene.

The girlfriend told deputies her brother was upset over an assault on a female charge filed on Potter involving her.

Potter was treated at the scene by Lincoln County EMS then transported to the hospital.

Deputies located Maguire at his residence and took him into custody without incident. According to authorities, he was taken before a Lincoln County magistrate and placed in the Harven A. Crouse Detention Center under a $40,000 secured bond.
