Trash Concerns In Monroe

MONROE, NC. — When Caitlin Strawn pulls out of her neighborhood onto Goldmine Road, she isn’t able to admire the greenery or trees. Her eyes are drawn straight to piles of trash.

“It’s really frustrating. This is a really beautiful part of the county. To have to drive and see this every day it’s really frustrating,” says Strawn.

Strawn says this has been happening for years. She says Waste Connections dump trucks come to and from construction sites and on their way trash blows out of the top of them and onto the side of the road.

WCCB saw a Waste Connection truck driving down the road and saw a piece of trash fly out.

Strawn says no one is doing anything about this. She and family members have spent hundreds of hours trying to clean it up themselves.

“We’ve tried to contact Waste Connections and we have not heard anything back from them.”

A spokesperson from Waste Connections tells WCCB they are investigating and we expect a follow up with their findings. Strawn says her plea to Waste connections is simple:

“I would just like if they drop the trash off their trucks, they notice that they pick it up,” Strawn adds.
