Original Story (4/21/21):

DAVIDSON, N.C. — The Kindred team is proud to announce the opening of their third restaurant, Milkbread, in Davidson, N.C.

The new café, operating seven days a week from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m., is expected to open later this year on Jetton Street, and will offer community food favorites including milk bread donuts, crispy chicken sandwiches, and a rotating selection of small production independent wine and beer.

Officials say Chef Joe Kindred has curated a menu that has something for everyone, with coffee and non-alcoholic drinks being served during the day and wine and beer available at night.

Owners Joe and Katy Kindred say when the pandemic hit in March of 2020, the Kindred team worked to develop a menu that traveled well and met people where they were at, in need of comfort, optimism, and nostalgia. Their biggest hits from the new menu included their milk bread donuts, crispy chicken sandwiches, and their socially distanced sommelier, who brought in a rotation of locally sourced wines for customers to try.

Kindred officials say during the shutdown, their team partnered with a local coffee brand Summit Coffee, to serve their now popular milk bread donuts out of a drive-thru bank in Davidson.

Joe and Katy Kindred say by opening this new café, they will give a permanent home to these pandemic food favorites and will continue their partnership with Summit Coffee be offering a private label house roast by the local brand at Milkbread.

“The pandemic showed us what small businesses can do when they link arms and work together. In this spirit the Kindred team is also thrilled to be partnering with two other Charlotte born, community focused, small businesses: their friends at HEX Coffee for a special co-branded espresso roast, only available at milkbread, and their friends at Verdant Bread for their incredible sourdoughs,” the Kindred team said in a statement.

Led by Katy Kindred, the restaurant location for Milkbread will feature a clean and minimalistic design with order at the counter service for dine-in, outdoor seating, and takeout and delivery options available as well.
