Driver Facing Charges After Woman Killed In Head-On Crash On North Sharon Amity

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Police say a 35-year-old woman was killed in a head-on crash on North Sharon Amity on January 23rd.  Now, a man is facing charges related to the fatal accident.

Investigators say 24-year-old Darryl Wamack Jr. was driving a 2009 Infinity G37 careless and reckless on North Sharon Amity Road near Kimmerly Glenn Lane just before 10:30am.  Wamack reportedly passed a vehicle to the right at a high rate of speed and attempted to move into the left lane when he lost control, crossed the center median, and struck a Honda Odyssey head-on, according to a police report.

Police say the driver of the Odyssey, Ashley Marie Adkins, died from the injuries she sustained in the accident.

Police say Wamack was not impaired at the time of the crash but speed and reckless driving were contributing factors in the crash, according to a news release.  Wamack will be charged with involuntary manslaughter, reckless driving, and speeding once he is released from Atrium Health Center Main.
