Adoptive Parents Arrested For Child Abuse In Rowan County
SALISBURY, N.C. — Two adoptive parents have been arrested after a child was found unresponsive in Rowan County.
The Salisbury Police Department was alerted on Jan. 22 that a nonresponsive child was brought to Novant Hospital by his adoptive father. The child was brought to the hospital on Jan. 21 around 12 p.m.
The child showed possible signs of neglect and was transported to Presbyterian Hospital for further treatment.
The Salisbury Police Department’s Criminal Investigation Division was notified and initiated an investigation. After reviewing the medical information and facts obtained during the investigation, arrest warrants were obtained for 42-year-old Reed Karriker, the adoptive father, and 42-year-old Georgianna Karriker, the adoptive mother, charging each one count of felony child abuse, according to police.
Police additionally charged Reed Karriker with attempted 1st degree murder in this case.
The adoptive parents were arrested Thursday and placed in the Rowan County Detention Center after each received a $40,000.00 bond, authorities said.
