Beloved Bus Driver Hospitalized After Serious Wreck In Indian Land

LANCASTER CO., N.C. — A beloved school bus driver in Indian Land is currently recovering in the hospital after she was involved in an extremely violent wreck with two other vehicles Wednesday evening.

Judy Carter, well known and longtime driver, had just finished her route and was alone when the crash occurred, according to Lancaster County Schools Director of School Safety and Transportation, Bryan Vaughn.

Vaughn says bus 4 from Indian Land was struck by two separate vehicles before losing control and traveling about 30 feet into the woods off Harrisburg Road around 6 p.m.

Carter was taken to a local hospital following the wreck and is being treated for numerous injuries, officials say.

The individuals from the other cars were also treated at and away from the scene.

Troopers say initial investigation reveals that a vehicle crossed left of center and hit the school bus, causing the crash.

Vaughn says “Please join me in offering prayers for Judy and all involved in this accident. This was an extremely violent wreck and we are very fortunate that children were not on the bus or this would have been even worse.”

Vaughn says Judy Carter faces a substantial recovery period but her injuries do not appear to be life-threatening.
