CFD: Victim Dies In Concord House Fire, $20,000 In Damages

CONCORD, N.C. — One victim is dead after a home in Concord caught fire early Saturday morning, according to the Concord Fire Department.

The Fire Department was notified of the house fire at the corner of Malvern Drive SW and Salem Street SW around 2:30 a.m.

While enroute, firefighters were notified of a possible victim still inside the home with a neighbor attempting to rescue the occupant.

Crews arrived within four minute of being dispatched to find the house with fire and smoke coming from the front and back doors.

Firefighters say they immediately went to work to locate the person reported to be trapped inside the home and to extinguish the flames.

Officials say the neighbor who attempted to rescue the victim had been forced out by fire and smoke.

After locating the victim inside the home, firefighters attempted life saving measures, but the victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

The fire was extinguished and brought under control within eight minutes, according to a news release.

Officials estimate the fire caused $20,0000 in damage.

A total of 40 firefighters and first responders with the Concord Fire Department, Cabarrus County EMS, Concord Fire Department, City of Concord Electrical Utilities Department and the Kannapolis Fire Department responded to the home.

Officials say the cause of the fire is still under investigation.

The name of the victim has not yet been released.
