16 Headstones Vandalized In Historic Black Salisbury Cemetery

SALISBURY, N.C. — Officials say more than a dozen gravestones were either broken or toppled in a historic Black cemetery in Salisbury where the oldest headstone is said to date back more than 170 years.

Emily Perry with the Dixonville-Lincoln Memorial Task Force says they made the discovery when they visited the cemetery to shoot video for a Black History Month event.

She said it was heartbreaking to see the vandalism.  The task force has worked for over 10 years restoring the cemetery.

Salisbury Police is investigating the crime.  The task force is now working to repair the damaged headstones.  If you’d like to help, click on the link below.
