Deputies: 13-Year-Old Charged For Having Airsoft Gun At Statesville Middle School
STATESVILLE, N.C. — A 13-year-old has been charged for being in possession of a weapon at a Statesville middle school on Friday, according to the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office and school officials.
The Iredell County Sheriff’s Office School Resource Officer at Third Creek Middle School, located on Barkley Road, was made aware through a tip of a possible weapon on campus sparking an investigation.
Iredell County School Officials and resource officers located the 13-year-old boy and conducted a search of his book bag. During the search, authorities found a black metal pistol with the barrel painted black.
Upon closer inspection of the gun it was verified by officials to be an Air Soft gun. The suspect was then escorted to the school office.
According to the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office, the suspect will be charged with possession of a weapons other than firearms and explosives on school grounds. The school suspended the suspect for 10 days and possibly longer.
The suspect was released to a parent and told not to be back on any Iredell-Statesville School Property, according to a news release.
“It is imperative that we create a safe environment for our students and staff. Anyone who poses a threat to any Iredell-Statesville Schools campus will be disciplined and receive consequences to the fullest extent of the law,” Iredell-Statesville Schools Superintendent Jeff James said. “We are thankful for the quick action of the school administration and the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office.”
