Woman Charged After Cabarrus County Vehicle Crash Left Man Dead

CABARRUS COUNTY, N.C. — A 39-year-old driver is facing several charges after a Cabarrus County crash killed a man Monday morning.

The Cabarrus County Sheriff’s Office responded to NC Highway 24, off of U.S. Route 601, in Midland around 10:30 a.m. to investigate a two vehicle crash with injuries.

First responders treated the patients from the two vehicles, a Jeep Cherokee and a Dodge Charger, while deputies began an investigation and assisted Midland Fire with traffic control.

The driver and sole occupant of the Jeep, identified as 43-year-old Robert Mungo of Stanfield, was pronounced dead at the scene by Cabarrus County EMS.

The other driver in the incident, identified as Christine Biancoviso of Huntersville, was transported by medic to a Concord hospital to be treated for their non-life threatening injuries, according to officials.

Through an investigation, Cabarrus County deputies determined that the Dodge Charger was traveling east on NC Highway 24 when the driver crossed the center multi-use lane striking the victim’s vehicle along the driver’s side. The impact flipped the victim’s vehicle onto its roof.

Deputies said Biancoviso’s statements and actions at the crash scene led them to believe she was operating her vehicle while impaired.

Following her release from the hospital, deputies arrested Biancoviso and charging her with felony death by motor vehicle (charged when the proximate cause of death is DWI), driving while license suspended, careless and reckless driving, driving left of center, and fail to wear a seatbelt.

The Sheriff’s Crash Reconstruction Unit continues its investigation of the crash.
