SLED: S.C. Police Officer Charged With Voluntary Manslaughter In Shooting Death

HEMINGWAY, S.C. — A police officer from the small South Carolina town of Hemingway has been arrested and charged following the shooting death of an unarmed man on Sunday, according to SLED.

SLED agents arrested Officer Cassandra Dollard in Berkeley County and charged her with voluntary manslaughter in this case.

Investigators say on February 6th, an unarmed man was shot once during an encounter with Officer Dollard, following a pursuit.

The subject, later identified as 46-year-old Robert Langely, was then taken to a local hospital where he died as a result of his injuries, according to a news release.

Authorities say Officer Dollard was booked into the Georgetown County Detention Center on Wednesday, February 9th for her alleged misconduct.

The investigation into this case is active and ongoing.

SLED agents will continue to conduct interviews with all potential witnesses and collect evidence.
