Wilson’s World with The “Save Cedar Grove” Group

CHARLOTTE, NC — Wilson’s World: Save Cedar Grove Cemetery

Members of the community have organized an effort called Save Cedar Grove Cemetery. Wilson spoke with Kevin Donaldson‎, a history master’s student at UNC Charlotte, about the work the group has done, and why saving, and researching this area is important. Once planned as a large African American cemetery, over the last 100 years the land was allocated to developers and the city of Charlotte.

There is a big need for volunteers, especially with the condition of the site. Tree clearing, trash pickup, surveying, and beautification are all areas that could use help. The hope is that by bringing families, the community, and students of history and archaeology, to the north Charlotte site, it will help revitalize the Cedar Grove Cemetery, and help save part of Charlotte’s History.
